At Versett, a Sr. Product Designer takes a leading role in all stages of the product design process; from initial concept, to design and prototyping, and iterating again to ensure that everything we build is of the highest quality.  You have proven visual design skills and understand the intricacies that make for an innovative user experience that solves real problems.

Sometimes you'll be on the front-lines, working on brand-new problems and trying to figure out what to build. Other times, you'll be deep in the details of a project, working directly with our engineers and product teams to  bring the vision to life. Through collaboration, you'll inspire and mentor other designers on the team and help raise the bar on visual and user experience design.

As a champion of design and senior member of our growing team, you'll have the opportunity to make a mark and help shape the design practice for our Toronto office. You'll work closely with the Director of Design and General Manager to grow the design practice, lead workshops and help sell the value of design, both internally and externally.

Product Designers at Versett have the following:

  • You have led a supporting designer and can proactively drive the design process on projects.
  • You are embedded in the design community, and have a desire to continue to give back and it's continued growth.
  • You're a team player.

At Versett, the technical lead plays a key role in project success both from a client-facing and internal viewpoint. You will be responsible for gathering requirements and scoping solutions which requires strong communication skills with both our clients and our team members across all disciplines.

The technical lead is highly involved in all decision making throughout the entire lifecycle of a project. While technically focused, your position works in tandem with project leads from design and strategy to build the best possible products for our clients.

Once solutions have been scoped and approved, your job is to lead a focused team of developers in the implementation of the product. Task assignment is done from this position, broken down as you see fit. Knowing your team's strengths and skillsets while providing valuable leadership and mentoring will be a vital part of the job.

The core competency of a technical lead is the ability to recommend technical solutions in collaboration with design and strategy leads, then work with a focused development team to implement them. This usually involves the following competencies:

  • Experience gathering requirements for large-scale projects and communicating potential solutions to clients and team members.
  • Ability to break down projects into clearly defined tasks and generate estimates of time for scope and budgeting purposes.
  • A wide breadth of experience across technical stacks. Leaning on your team's knowledge and communicating with them is always valuable.
  • Strong leadership and mentorship capabilities.

These are some nice to haves that can be learned on the job:

  • Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and project structures.
  • Working knowledge of JIRA or similar project management tools.

At Versett, a developer is a broad sweeping term for a technical consultant, strategist, and finally, implementor of solutions for the products we create. A Front-end Developer's role focuses on the UI and UX of web products and applications and integrating them with backend systems and APIs. You should be equipped with an ever-shifting tool belt based on latest best practices, up-to-date standards, and most importantly a strong understanding of the problem at hand and what best solves it.

Worried about frameworks, build systems, transpilers and other beasts? Don't be. While we do have preferences that we adjust and align on as a team, in our opinion tools are easier to teach and learn than concepts (but we encourage teaching and learning those, too).

Your core competencies as a front-end developer rely on a strong understanding of CSS, HTML, and Javascript (web and Node). You have a foundational understanding of modern patterns and methodologies, a solid grasp of latest specifications, and an awareness of accessibility and performance pitfalls. You are flexible and strive to better yourself and the company. You have a collaborative mindset, and most importantly, you have empathy for your users, clients, and co-workers.

'Front-end' is a broad term and doesn't have to be all-encompassing, if you feel like you fit some of the following you should get in touch:

  • You have worked with a designer or solo to build out a styleguide/style system/UI kit.
  • You have rolled your own BEM, OOCSS, SMACSS-esque css architecture, for better or worse.
  • You have built a SPA or two using one or more JS frameworks and it went really well.
  • You have built a SPA or two using one or more JS frameworks and it went really badly.
  • You've built out a website or web-app that met WCAG AA compliance.
  • You are used to letting a build system do the heavy lifting.
  • You have had conversations around state management, immutability, and unidirectional flow.
